Agnes Szavay has already survived the first three rounds of the fairly prestigious Qatar Telecom German Open. In the first round she was playing very well against Sequera when Sequera was forced to stop playing due to an injury.
In the second round she played against Zi Yan and did not have any problems beating her with 6-1 6-1.
The third match was against Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli. It was quite an even match were both girls had the opportunity to win the match. However it was Agnes who stayed calm at the right moments and was able to win both sets with 7-5.
So Agnes has already reached the quarter-finals and she will play this match against world-number two, and highest remaining seed Ana Ivanovic.

Agnes was able to win against her doubles partner Dinara Safina in 2 short sets with 6-2 7-5. Agí was constantly in control of the game but when she could serve for the match her hands started shaking, letting Dinara rebreak and comming back to 5-5. Agnes then controlled her nerves and took care of a rebreak immediately, also winning her consecutive service game.
Later today, Agnes will play alongside Dinara Safina again in the second round of the doubles tournament.

Nineteen year-old Agnes Szavay of Hungary is enjoying her highest Sony Ericsson WTA Tour ranking since turning pro in 2004. She skyrocketed from No. 207 in 2006 to No. 20 at the end of 2007. When the latest Tour rankings were posted Monday, Szavay had reached No. 13 in the world.
Szavay continued her quest for the Top 10 on Monday by defeating 10-year tour pro Yuliana Fedak of the Ukraine, 6-0, 7-6(4) in the 1 hour, 34 minute match. The first set was all Szavay taking it in just 23 minutes.
Fedak came alive in the second set winning 69% of her first serves. She had her chances to take the second set with seven break opportunities only managing to capitalize on one of those breaks. Each woman held serve five times in the second set to get to an exciting tiebreak which Szavay used to close out the match.
Szavay, one of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour’s rising stars, will face Japan’s Ai Sugiyama in the second round who defeated fellow countrywoman Ayumi Morita, 6-4, 6-1.

Agnes Szavay has once again reached a new carreer-high ranking. After reaching the quarter finals last week, Agí is now ranked 13th in the world. Let us all hope that She can do at least as good in Charleston, and maybe even better.
